Detailed Error Reports.
Cable Doctor can be configured so that after each test, the test results are compared to a known-good "Golden" cable. Then, either a large PASS or a large FAIL screen displays....

The number "9" tells you that keyboard key 9 (or Push-Button 9) activated the test.
If you choose "View differences" a report such as the one below, describes all the differences between the two cables:
In the above report "Main Pwr Socs Black Earth", "Slave Socs Red Live", "Motor Drive Spade", and "Ctrl soc Motor drive"are User-Supplied Text-Descriptions corresponding to pins on the cable or harness. You do not have to supply Text-Descriptions when setting up the tester. Without them the software reverts to its native "Socket number / Pin number" descriptions, and the above report would read something like:
Cab1's S1 P7 is missing connection to S2 P3.
Understanding the above report.
The first two lines more or less duplicate each other, indicating that a pair of pins are shorted. The information is presented twice because if there is an extra connection between pin one and pin two, then there is also an extra connection between pin two and pin one.
The last two lines of the report show that a diode on the cable is the wrong way round. The diode is "missing" between the first pin and the second pin but, because it is actually in the wrong way round, an "extra diode" has been discovered between the second pin and the first pin.
